Sort alphabetical / reverse alphabetical, possibly by date added, any other considerations? |

@bsclifton Having become used to synchronised bookmarks with other UAs, this account-driven approach has been hugely appealing to me as I use several devices and want to reference History/Bookmarks wherever I am. That said, without using some questionable/pretty average Bookmark managing extensions, the UX of managing bookmarks so that they're a relevant, up-to-date reference has always been and still is a clunky chore. I would love to see the "Bookmarks" feature re-conceptualised for modern, advanced workflows, including perhaps some kind of optional integration with History. Happy to lend a brainstorm, and if my JS skillz are sharp enough for contrib, a hand with this part, too. |
@davewallace We have a plan to do something really interesting in a manager UI that combines tab history and bookmarking. Brainstorms and JS (not necessarily together) are always welcomed and encouraged. |
Nice, OK well here's just a few ideas off the top of my head - just had a coffee so why not... some maybe not new but I think they're useful - i've pegged some marketing names on each feature for fun:

great ideas @davewallace This was an early mockup (in a night theme) but it may give you an idea of what was originally called the "tab cab". But in the spirit of your lion theme, perhaps "tab den" or "lions share" would be better. ; ) The mockup shows a split view that collects all tabs into a visual search window (top third), the tab history (middle) and a new approach to easy bookmarking - which accepts dragndrop tabs from tab history. We have a semi-related bug to fix before we can start gathering enough to build this big feature. I like your session visualizer idea. Perhaps this could be a new view type within the tab/session history viewer... |
Thanks @bradleyrichter - good to see there's interest in these sorts of features, I know I've been wanting better integration of my browser and my day-to-day workflows for many, many years. I know maybe these features aren't the core premise of Brave but they're good selling points for conversion :) So building on your mockup then, I like the groupings, presumably they're customisable, what I do find an annoyance in the Bookmark features around in other UAs is the brevity of link details as is also in this mockup. What I mean is, often people access the same site for multiple reasons and so ~30 character of the title attribute generally isn't enough to set one bookmark apart from another. I know you've just thrown a bunch of blog.com lorem ipsums in there - but it actually reflects reality! I would err on the side of providing more character length by default and (optionally?) a scrape preview - not sure what the correct terminology is, but a preview of the site similar to dropping a link into one of the many web tools around like Hipchat or Slack. That way Users get even more context to prompt memory recall, which in turn would increase the usefulness of what could grow into a very large list of bookmarks. I'll have a coffee tomorrow and drop any more ideas & feedback if you like :) |

Why is this not done? This has been around since netscape 1. If you can't get basic functionality working correctly on a desktop, why should I install it on a phone or tablet? Seriously, I'm not going to waste my time even looking at anything else (like brave payments) until basic tools like this are working. |
A fix is always appreciated. |

@luixxiul A fix would be great. And if I was retired; And willing to re-enter into the computer programming field after almost 20 years outside it; to work for another company (said company attempting to generate profits of it's own) for free, I might consider dusting off my coding skills for a weekend. Instead of working for my own company well outside the engineering or IT fields. I support and experiment with Brave because a) it looks like a really cool product and. . .b) The way Mozilla treated Brendan Eich reveals a level of hypocrisy and sanctimonious "holier-than-thou-ism" that just deserves to have them run out of business. And if it can happen in a way similar to the way that Microsoft won a HUGE account from Netscape over a weekend back in the late 1990s so much the better. Karma. My comment was directed to the fact that there appears to be a concentration of development on activities unrelated to the core functioning of the basic browser. Extensions are nice. Payment systems are nice. Being able to manage bookmarks (to me at least) is about as core a function as rendering html. And how long has this issue been simmering on the forum in one fashion or another?? Now if you want to use some kind of "extension" system for organizing the various modules ("shields" is an extension, "bookmark mgt." is an extension, history, tab management, etc. are all extensions) then working on "extensions" makes sense. From where I'm sitting though, it appears you're trying to build a house from the roof down, rather than the foundation up. Signing off JS |
+1 from community (specifically wishes to sort bookmarks in order of importance to user as opposed to alpha, etc): https://community.brave.com/t/bookmark-enhancement/6711 |
Another plus one. This is bonkers for it to not be a feature. |
Another +1 with list of problems I've had with bookmarks in general: https://community.brave.com/t/first-impressions-list-of-issues/8958 |

+1 This would be a most welcome feature |
This is partially fixed with Brave Core... You can't sort the bookmarks from the bookmarks toolbar unfortunately (at least, not that I've found): right clicking a folder on boomarks toolbar right clicking a bookmark in folder on bookmarks toolbar However, you can sort the bookmarks from the bookmarks page: |
Closing this issue as As you can see above, Brave Core does offer a way to sort from the |
