Brave freezes after downloading or saving multiple files on macOS #16261

Description

Brave freezes multiple times a day with regular web use, but only after using the [File->Save Page As...] or download options (especially with PDFs). The number of downloads required to bring about a freeze varies, but the longer I've been using the browser the more likely it becomes.
By "freeze" I mean the entire user interface stops responding and it is as if I'm clicking on a photo. The only way to unfreeze the browser is by using the Force Quit dialogue box.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open up a few tabs (8/9 for instance) and browse the internet as normal (scrolling through social media, reading news articles, checking email etc.)
  2. Open a pdf in the browser from a webpage, scroll through it and then try to download it using the download button on the top right. If it works then download a few more files by right clicking and using the "Save Link As..." option on different websites. Try downloading some PDFs again. (It usually doesn't take more than 12 downloads.)
  3. If it's still not happening then keep the browser open while sleeping your mac for 30mins or so and try again.

Actual result:

The browser becomes unresponsive after clicking the "save" button and initiating the download. Waiting does not help.

Expected result:

The download initiates and the user interface remains responsive to continue browsing.

Reproduces how often:

Easily reproduced.

@percivalspencer Are you still having this issue with our latest 1.31.87? We didn't see additional performance reports of this nature. Was this specific to a set of .pdf files that you were downloading?

I have the same issue with the latest version of brave : Version 1.38.111 Chromium: 101.0.4951.54 (Official Build) (64-bit) on ubuntu 22.04.
Each time I try to save a file (either a pdf or an image or whatever) the whole window freeze (it stop responding and cannot be close by the regular close button on top right corner) and the only option is to close that window through the display manager.
It seems that it is the download invite which make the window crash since I can just click on cancel the download in the invite and it still crashes.

@Lyght28 I suspect similar to #23697 but this one seems to be macOS and doesn't reproduce in Chrome.

@Lyght28 you may want to try a workaround I've described in #23697 (comment)
