How do we align the AI use cases framework to Skills?

Initial open discussion on the 5th of Feb between Arcangelo, Ale and Sofia.

Framework here.

Brain dump:

Idea 1. Currently, we use a fictional case study to go through the 3Rs (AI risks, rewards and responsibilities) exercises.

I wonder if we could invite SMEs to share their product/ services ideas and use the workshops to work on real-life cases.

Advantages of this potential approach:

  • We guarantee benefits for SMEs in our training interventions: since we don’t control who attends the workshops, this way we can guarantee that, regardless of the profile of participants, we always generate an impact for SMEs.

  • We connect directly with more SMEs, enabling us to better understand their AI adoption barriers and learning needs.

  • We integrate the AI use case framework at the beginning and end of every learning intervention: first as a way to filter use cases from applicants (need to fit within the parameters of the use case framework) and lastly as a way to collect/ build a catalog of use cases that can be shared widely, inside and outside learning interventions.

Team effort 5 (1-5)

Idea 2. To be written up/ thought through:

  • A call for use cases from smes that want to share their ai adoption wins and challenges, across the different dimensions of the framework.

Team effort 4 (1-5)

Idea 3. For phase two of the framework, we can use the same list of AI challenges/ risks, incorporate ways of mitigating them an linking them as an external source to the 3Rs course.

Idea 3.1 - Run a session just on risks

Idea 4 - Sustainable way of sharing the case studies. Do a countdown to a live event, each day/ week sharing a case study per sector.

Idea 5 - For the 3Rs course , we could link the uses cases to the course, allowing people access to not just one case (omnibus) but 50.

Idea 6 - Adjusting the Facilitator guide on running 3Rs workshop with a selection of cases for people to chose/ different groups to work on.

Idea 7 - Integrate as a module of cyber security content course

idea 9 - Step by step guide on how companies can self-assess potential applications for their different business functions (HR, accounting, production, marketing, etc)

idea 10 -

To keep everything centralised here:

Message from Arcangelo after first call:
Hi both, great talking to you earlier. Here is a summary of the key ideas we discussed. Feel free to add if I missed anything.

There are two primary drivers of impact related to the AI use case project:

  • facilitate the practical use/adoption of the ai use case framework
    framework used by ISAs
    framework used by companies
framework used by regulators (out of the scope of this conversation)
leverage the use case database to provide concrete examples of what companies can do with AI
ISAs can add use cases to the database
we can ask IUK to send out a form for companies to fill in with their use cases
once the database is large enough, we can think about ways to share it publicly (both through events/workshops and as a resource hosted on a public platform)

Next steps:

  • Organise 1-1s or a small group call with select ISAs to discuss 1) how they could use the framework as part of their work; 2) how they think companies could use the framework. This would be useful to write a short 'user guide' on how to use the framework (Arc and Ale)
  • Explore Po Yang / transport sector workshop opportunity (sorry for the poor phrasing here, Alexandra if you could remind me what you had in mind for this one would be great). / Po is an expert on agriculture
  • Think about Skills offers where the AI use case project could contribute value (Sofia)
  • Meeting with Vera on Friday (Arc and Sofia)

@AlexandraAAJ I am rewriting the text above with a slightly different indentation format.

Meeting on Friday 7 February (Vera, Florian, Arcangelo and Ale).

Main topic: different formats to make the framework more usable:

  • ISAs presentation and how they can use them (Tom and Po) / What would make it more useful? Facilitator guide with input
  • Disseminating more actively through ISAs, facilitator guides, templates, etc.
  • AI in 3Rs: uses the use case as the centre of a narrative story and takes organisation to a set of activities to understand the consequences of how it impacts the stakeholders and how to mitigate them. They currently used a transportation scenario, but there should be more to be used in cross-sectors. Sofia and Arcangelo could identify more use cases to resonate to the sectors.
  • Skills framework: mapping the research to the skills framework.
  • Skills Theory of change, Anastasia
  • (Florian and Arcangelo) Possible use is if the company is trying to figure out how to adopt AI, to provide a framework to how to start using Aim holistic framework to find out how you can start using AI (1). (2) Educational purpose, engaging to the framework, people understand what AI is. By the looking at the taxonomy you develop a breadth of what AI is. (3) Use case of the framework, for companies to develop their own catalogue of use case and adapt it to the context. (4) And, the data base that have been used to develop the framework.
  • Reason for not publishing the database is because we need to do it in a sustainable way. Educational materials to use the framework, glossary, templates. Additional discussion sessions providing scenarios of use cases.
  • Timescale: move the timeframe to work on educational content. Moving the timeline for the 2nd stage. Using the time to refine the materials, and developing educational paths.

Meeting on Friday 7 February (Vera, Florian, Arcangelo and Ale).

Main topic: build on-ramps to support the adoption of the AI use case framework and amplify its impact

  • ISAs

    • ISAs are a conduit for the dissemination of the framework

      • ISAs can use the framework as part of their advising work where useful (the framework, among other things, is a template that can be used to analyse use cases internally)
      • ISAs can suggest using the framework to companies they are in contact with
    • ISAs can help us better understand how companies can make the most out of the framework. We can work with Tom and Po to get their inputs on how different personas (in this case a company and an ISA) practically use the framework in different scenarios

      • Possible outputs: a facilitator guide, templates, etc.
  • AI in 3Rs:

    • Arcangelo and Sofia to discuss if the framework can be integrated in any of the course modules
    • Arcangelo and Mishka to discuss if the framework can be integrated in future modules
    • Leverage the AI use case database to select interesting use cases to use as the centre of a narrative story which takes organisation to a set of activities to understand the consequences of how AI impacts the stakeholders and how to mitigate them. They currently used a transportation scenario, but there should be more to be used in cross-sectors. Sofia and Arcangelo could identify more use cases to resonate to the sectors.
  • Skills framework: mapping the research to the skills framework.

  • Skills Theory of change, Anastasia

  • (Florian and Arcangelo) Value contributions of the AI use case framework are:

      1. if the company is trying to figure out how to adopt AI, think framework can support them to think systematically about AI adoption in an organisational context. It helps achieving clarity in complex decisions.
      1. the framework also has an educational purpose: by engaging with the framework, users gain a better understanding of what AI is and what it can do for an organisation.
      1. the framework can also support companies to develop an internal portfolio of AI use cases they are considering for adoption. The framework is a flexible tool that users can adapt to specific needs and contexts
      1. the AI use case database provides concrete examples of how organisations can use AI.
      • There is value in publishing the database but we need to do it in a sustainable way. We can think about what educational materials we can develop based on the AI use case database (e.g., glossary, templates, additional discussion sessions providing scenarios of use cases).
  • Timescale: move the timeframe to work on educational content. Moving the timeline for the 2nd stage. Using the time to refine the materials, and developing educational paths.
