Right, when you don't have any items between brackets, the brackets themselves are rendered. It'd be nice if {} act like an empty space, maybe? This way we don't have to wrap/check for empty lists.

Hi @fnando – I think there is some danger here because you could end up with glyphs in your text that don't visibly render, so hunting them down to clean things up would be rather tedious. Plus, if you wanted to actually show the bracket characters for some reason it would be impossible.
