Measure with the telephone by hand (the measurement continues even after the phone switches to standby)

Use walking preferably

When you perceive that the sound environment will change (for example, you switch from a park to a boulevard), stop the current measure and start a new one

There is no minimum duration, but the longer the duration is the better the exploitation; the interesting is to have measurements on a trip where the sound environment is about "homogeneous"

Do not hesitate to go back in the same areas, at other times of the day, at other time period of the week/year

Avoid measurements with strong rain or wind (or consider selecting the corresponding Tags)

At this stage, the presented map is based only on the raw data collected (without filtering, without processing). The objective is to collect sufficient data to produce, in a second stage, maps that are "relevant from the point of view of an acoustician", by developing new methodologies.
These maps will be uploaded later.
Recent work has focused on this subject. The last results show that the quality of smartphones is improving continuously and that such a device can be used for this type of application

Obviously, it is best to calibrate the smartphone by comparison with a reference device (see the "Calibration" menu of the application)!

To improve the measurement, you can use an external microphone, which you can calibrate with the application using a calibrator (if compatible)

Realize a measurement with the phone in hand, on foot, and, if possible, without adding noise!

Even without calibration, the information transmitted is of interest for our research!

Since this is an Open Science approach, there are many ways to contribute to this project:

Contribute to the collection of data, using NoiseCapture

Organize NoiseCapture Party to collect data (NoiseCapture Party protocol)

Give us your feedback on your use of the application or on the difficulties encountered ([email protected])

Participate in developing the source code: https://github.com/Ifsttar/NoiseCapture

Participate in translating the application and website into other languages; it is very simple! Contact us for the procedure: [email protected]
