[ Submitter's Name ] Eric Lee [ Submitter's Affiliated Organisation ] The Mozilla Science Lab and The Rochester Institute of Technology
[ Space ] science [ Secondary Space ]
[ Format ] fireside, format-not-sure
Description
The goal of the session is to provide an environment to discuss the use of citations pertaining to software in the research community. We are working on a suite of tools in collaboration with Mozilla Science to assist researchers in citing software and to drive the implementation of the ideas outlined in Force 11’s software citation principles https://www.force11.org/software-citation-principles
Agenda
We imagine we’d start the session discussing the problem, our proposed solution and the state of implementation. We’d open the floor to questions and feedback. We also have a short survey that we’d encourage attendees to answer.
Participants
We would like to hear the opinions and suggestions of each attendee. This works well if there are less than 10 attendees. However if there are more than 20 we can subdivide into groups and facilitate smaller group discussions.
Outcome
Our desired outcome is to receive feedback on our current progress and adjust the direction of our products based on that feedback. We’d hopefully garner interest in the project and inspire people to join us on our journey.
We’d hope that the attendees would walk away with a deeper understanding of how to cite software but also why it is important.
