Ability to change Hector via the GCAM Data system #1142
Comments
I think that would be useful. We also need to update the data system to ensure a smooth transition from Hector historical emissions to GCAM future emissions. |
As of now if i want to run hector with any variation, how can i pass on the information to GCAM? |
Hi @ARITRABANDOPADHYAY, what sort of changes are you interested in making to Hector? Changing Hector versions? Parameter values? |
Hello @kdorheim I have just started exploring the GCAM data system mostly the land sector. I am just curious to know how to use the hector model and how can I integrate it to GCAM if I make any changes. As you might be well aware that global models like CMIP6 do no represent a specific region at times. So, I am interested to look into the hector model and see if I change any parameter value, what repulsions it causes. I would also like to share another issue, which I am struggling with the most. I am facing an error while installing the gcam data system in R using renv package. It shows a bootstrapping error. I have raised the same issue on GitHub too. Here is the link to the issue |
Hi @ARITRABANDOPADHYAY unfortunately, I am not able to help with your renv question but looking at the thread there Ben and Page are on it 👍 Re your questions about Hector-GCAM any time you complete a GCAM run you are also going to run Hector! To make changes to Hector parameters you'll want to make changes to the ini file ( |
I am not sure if this is a hector development or a data system development idea but I think it would be useful to be able to modify hector set up via the data system. I suspect that GCAM users could be interested in running Hector parametrized to emulate different CMIP6 and CMIP5 models or with probabilistic. It would be cool if we could make is easier for GCAM users to change via the data system instead of manually changing the hector-gcam.ini file. But only if we think that this would be a useful capability.
