The way multi shot in this mod works ( I'm guessing) is just using vanilla bow randomness to spread the arrows. The problem is that this is not helpful in the slightest because once a mob is doing their death animation or damage animation all other arrows reflect from them. This means if you are shooting a mob at close range there's a very high chance the arrows will reflect and hit you making this effect terrible.
I suggest having one arrow for this way so the archer can hit the mob their aiming at and making the other arrows having more randomness (like other multi shots in the past) or setting the other arrows angles so they will definitely spread.

I know what you're talking about, I've seen this issue in other multi shot mods because that is how vanilla entities handle then been hit by multiple arrows at the same time, At first I added more randomness to the arrow direction but that resulted in lower bow accuracy. I'll look into an improvement.
