Disabling notifications for file_selector

Is it possible to completely disable the green notifications that pop-up in the file selector or override this as a callback to handle elsewhere? I have a lot of small files beings selected from a folder for processing, and the endless green blob that appears is super annoying in this case.

Yes, you can put the notify property to False. See here the documentation
