Describe the new feature

If a file is changed using a text editor while it's open in the GUI, the only way to load the updated file is to close it, avoid saving, and reopen it, which is time consuming and the updates may be lost if the old version is accidentally saved.

It may be helpful for us to understand the purpose of having the file simultaneously open in a text editor. There may be a need for a feature that avoids the need to edit the file outside the GUI.

Thanks Julian. It could be a few reasons, like:

  • Sometimes it's easier to do some tasks in a text editor (like mass text replaces) while others are easier to be done in the GUI and/or file needs to be run frequently to test the changes.

  • A large template is being worked on and an R script is going to make some changes in it and one needs to test the results frequently while the script is being completed.
