For me personally, I think it would be easier to read if instead of increasing the weight at the beginning of the word, you decreased the contrast at the end of the word (ie increased lightness on light backgrounds and decreased lightness on dark backgrounds). I know this would take more logic and calculation to implement than just changing the weight, so I'm leaving it as feedback for now.
