thinking about the final paragraph of "Background" section... "By using a formal VCS, researchers can not only increase their own productivity but also make it for others
to fully understand, use, and build upon their contributions." this is of course true.

Another benefit that I think is important is that git is a standard tool. Scientists are not wasting time building something that has been done by others and done better. git encapsulates good workflow practice (well, sometimes) and is robust and well tested. You will be able to find people to help you use git in the grad student common room.

Excellent point. Since the article is already in review, I'll wait to add this in. Almost positive they will also point something out (and I should leave stuff for them to fix ;)
