Participants should not be seeing repeat statements when coming back to the conversation on the same device and browser

A number of participants have reported seeing repeat statements — when using safari and chrome

Notes from @peterwgnd

(03/03)
I just checked and can confirm I'm getting the same user ID on the site today that I got on Tuesday, but no idea what might have happened in between.

I happened to be on a call with @metasoarous when this came through and he mentioned that he had experienced an issue with comments appearing repeatedly in the past and that there should be some prior notes on this. He believed the issue might be related to distributed systems and multiple servers being used to run the conversation but wasn't sure. I wanted to flag in case the technical team on your end was able to find those notes.

Safari on an iPhone blows away the LocalStorage object where user IDs are being stored if people don't interact with a site for 7 days.

I have not been able to reproduce this issue on my own, using mobile safari with an embedded convo using xids.
I've tried clearing cookies, clearing cache, restarting safari, etc.
Polis keeps doing the correct thing and using the embedded xid to identify the user and show the unseen comments.

So I'm trying to determine what else might be different about BG. For example they have 1,200 comments (my local convo has 5). That could be part of it.
